why we got rid of "BAME"
"We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color."
- Maya Angelou
Our decision to ask the CDG (Casting Directors Guild) to stop using the term BAME is based on the fact that the acronym is used as an umbrella term to group together individuals of different ethnicities rather than recognising their culture, heritage and background which makes them unique – referring to any actor by their specific ethnicity should not be considered offensive in any way but is being clear and direct and to be encouraged.
